09/04/2007 The American University of Iraq-Sulaimani (AUI-S) is proud to announce the launch of its first graduate programs set to begin in late fall 2007, in conjunction with Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences (Germany). AUI-S will offer two graduate degrees, the Master of Business Administration in Management and Information Technology (MBA/MIT) and the Masters of Business Administration in International Management (MBA/IM). The programs are designed for mid-career managers and will be offered at times convenient for the working professional.
The MBA/MIT is designed to educate students on the value of integrating business concepts and principles through the use of technology. The MBA/IM is oriented towards educating students on working with competitive international business practices in a global environment. The graduate programs will use American standards and curriculum, and the case model approach to promote critical thinking. Both programs will be offered in week long intensive course modules. Since the classes will be offered in English, MBA candidates who do not have a TOEFL score of 550+ must take English top-up courses prior to and concurrent with their MBA classes. Students must raise their English language skills to TOEFL 550 by the completion of 12 credits in order to continue in the MBA program. Students whose TOEFL scores are below 400 will have to enroll in the more intensive English language preparation courses before they can proceed with the MBA credit coursework. Students completing the designated nine courses (18 credits) in the diploma program (with CGPA of 3.0/4.0) will be awarded an intermediate Postgraduate Diploma in Management. The tuition for each course (2 credit hours per course) is anticipated to cost $1,050 ($525 per credit hour). Each MBA degree program consists of 17 courses. Candidates for the MBA should have a baccalaureate or postsecondary diploma and at least three years of professional experience. A specific undergraduate diploma/certificate in business administration or management is not required because the AUI-S graduate programs are designed for working professionals who have an undergraduate degree in any discipline, along with professional work experience. AUI-S feels that such professional work experience will result in a stimulating educational environment, as students will be able to apply theoretical business models to real world issues and experiences. The American University of Iraq - Sulaimani is a private, non-profit institution licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government of The Republic of Iraq. AUI-S also is a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers. The AUI-S vision is to be the foremost educational institution in the development of future Middle East leaders in all fields, so as to promote and preserve a peaceful and democratic Iraq with liberty and prosperity for all its citizens and for the entire region.
