AUI-S welcomes all qualified students from every part of Iraq. The university accepts students without regard to religion, ethnicity, national origin, or gender. Students are admitted based only on the record of their past academic performance and the potential they demonstrate for success at The American University. AUI-S looks for students who are self-motivated and love learning. Even though all our undergraduate academic classes are in English, if your English isn’t at the level of TOEFL 550 or higher, you can be accepted into our pre-academic English language program where you will learn to read, write and speak the language very well. Only students whose English is already at TOEFL 550 will be allowed to enter our graduate MBA program.
In time, AUI-S will develop its own test for admission to the university. Until then, we will

rely on the high school completion test scores that all Iraqi high school graduates take. Those students who score 90% or higher have an excellent chance of being admitted to the university. Those students who score 90% or higher and also have TOEFL scores of 550 or greater, will matriculate directly into our undergraduate academic program; those with lower TOEFL scores will be placed in our intensive English language program – the English Writing Program and Language Institute (EWPLI). Those students whose high school completion score is between 80% and 90% have a reasonable chance of admission, if there are places available. The University does not anticipate taking many students whose scores are below 80%. All students interested in applying to AUI-S should fill in the application form available on this website. Students may download a form and bring it to the Office of Admissions in person or fill out the form via the online application option. Please follow all the directions carefully and remember that any application that is found to contain false or misleading information will result in the denial of admission to the University. All application materials are the property of AUI-S, and cannot be returned.
Any applicant, whether for graduate or undergraduate admissions, can contact or visit our Admissions Office at the University in Sulaimani for further assistance.
Notification of Admission and Start Dates: Applicants for admission will be notified of their status in writing or by email from the Office of Admissions and Records. It is anticipated that AUI-S will start classes for the Fall Semester of 2008 in mid-October. Admitted students will be notified about the date/time/location of their Orientation, English language placement testing and registration, as well as the start and location of classes. Those who wish to apply to AUI-S should monitor the AUI-S website (www.auis.org) for updates regarding admissions and application deadlines.
