Each semester is a discrete instructional period of 16-weeks+, and is comprised of 15-weeks+ of teaching and a common Final Examinations Week. The University also operates 16-weeks+ intensive English language programs each semester and during the Summer Term. AUI-S schedules a one to two week mid-year break between semesters. Fall Semester customarily begins around the middle of October, while Spring Semester starts in early February. Students may enter the University as degree seeking (matriculated) students at the beginning of any semester. Students interested only in intensive English classes may begin their study in the intensive language courses at the start of any semester/Summer Term.
Students customarily study for four years after secondary school in order to earn a baccalaureate degree (Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, etc.). Students who have to begin their studies in our English language program may need to take more than four years to complete the degree requirements.
Students select an academic area of interest as their primary focus, generally after their first year at AUI-S. This primary academic area is called the Major. Students at AUI-S also select a Minor academic area of interest as a secondary area of emphasis. For example, a student might choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program of study with a Major in Computer Systems & Information Technology (CS&IT), and a Minor in Management. All undergraduate students at AUI-S must take a common core of liberal arts classes (University Requirements). These courses are meant to broaden you understanding, introduce you to different fields and disciplines, and prepare you for entry into your major.
